Brighton Half Marathon
On 18th February 2007, Kili Climbers Will Lockie and David Coats pounded the streets of Brighton for the annual Brighton Half Marathon in aid of the Amani Childrens Home.
At 10am on a grey overcast winters day, David and Will lined up with 3500 other foolish people to put their bodies through 2 hours of hell! The race started well for both David and Will, with the route taking the guys from the start line on Maderia Drive up past St Peters church, the Level and on to London Road. From here they route turns back on itself, through the North Laines, past Jubilee Street and the new library and onto the sea front, where the majority of the race is run.
At the 3 mile mark, Will stormed ahead of David to set the pace for the other runners! The guys pounded on toward Hove Lagoon and the half way water station. At 9 miles, the race really started to get tough. The route loops back on itself to do a double length of maderia drive. Just when the guys thought they were finished, the route continues for a further 3 miles over the cliffs above the Marina.
At 11.47 - Will crossed the finish line with a superp time of 1hr 47mins - to be followed close behind at 1hr 50 mins by David. Both guys finished in the top half of runners which was an excellent achievement.
Combined - the pair managed to raise £265 which will be added to the Kilimanjaro climb fund for the Amani Kids.
Well done guys!
