The Kili Climb

If you had asked me a year ago where I would be spending September 2007, the answer would not have been halfway up Mt Kilimanjaro. But this is where we will be, and thats a very good thing. Having become a little bit more philosophical about life in later years, I think we in the West get far too caught up in our hectic day to day lives to sit back and realise how lucky we are.

So, once in a while you ought to go and do something to remind yourselves and others, that in the big scheme of things, missing that bus or cursing that slow web connection, is small beans compared to the hardships other endure. If you can help out in a way or for a cause that makes a difference, then that is a very good thing. That is why I am climbing this mountain, and helping out the Amani Kids Home.

I aim to raise £1000 for the home. This money will go toward building a new playground at the Amani Home, and also help the family reunification programme. In February we ran the Brighton half marathon, which was painful. In a few weeks we are riding the Randonne challenge, which will be a lot more painful. This is a 100 mile, off road bike ride (read: endurance test) across the South Downs Way - the longest bridle way in the country. It starts in Winchester, and finishes in Eastbourne. To be completed in 12hrs. It is no race, just completing it is enough of a challenge. There are no rest stops, no nice people handing out drinks, and if you get lost, then you’ve had it basically. I’ve mapped the route here. Check it out and laugh at us. But wish us luck at the same time and please sponsor me!

And finally, a little bit about me - I’m 31, after becoming slightly tired of London life and music biz politics, I am now an account manager at the funkiest digital agency in Brighton. Frankly, we can’t wait to do this trip. I think we’ll all learn a few things along the way, raise a lot of cash, and many smiles…hope you can join us.

    Good luck, Will.

As well as helping others you also learn a great deal about yourself doing things like this.
